Quality & Service Worth Remembering

Our Team

John-and-TraceyTRACEY McGINNIS – Co-owner and Store Manager

Blinds have always meant business for Tracey McGinnis. Growing up in Ontario, her family owned a dozen Slats Blinds window coverings stores. It was only natural that she joined the family enterprise after graduating from high school.

Tracey started by doing bookkeeping, and eventually managed different locations. When she and John moved their family from Southwestern Ontario to the Comox Valley in 2004, they opened the area’s first authorized Hunter Douglas Showroom™ — Blinds, Billiards and Baubles. The name changed to Blinds & Bubbles Boutique in 2011 and focused solely on window fashions and blind cleaning.

Today, with more than 35 years of industry experience to her credit, Tracey has a vast wealth of knowledge to share with her clients.

“I have seen plenty of changes in window fashions manufacturing over the years,” says Tracey, “and my interest and enthusiasm for quality products continues to grow right along with it. I love helping people find solutions for their home décor projects; and I absolutely LOVE being a part of this vibrant community!”

JOHN McGINNIS – Co-owner & Certified Hunter Douglas Installation/Repairs Technician

A true Islander, John McGinnis grew up in the Comox Valley. Like many others, he left the area in his youth, to pursue employment opportunities and experiences elsewhere. He eventually settled in Southwestern Ontario, where he and Tracey started their family.

After several vacations ‘home’ to visit John’s relatives, the couple decided to permanently relocate to Vancouver Island. “The choice to move here was not a difficult one for us,” recalls John. “We absolutely love everything that this community has to offer and felt it was the best place on earth to raise our two sons and start a new business.”

Since opening the store in 2004, John has expertly handled the installation of both hard and soft window coverings, as well as warranty repairs and blind cleaning. He became Hunter Douglas certified in motorization, including remote and hard-wired systems, in 2012.

Brenda Taylor – Sales Associate

Brenda had a 30+ year career as an elementary school teacher before turning her attention to interior decorating.  She had a decorating business in Guelph, Ontario before moving back to Calgary, where she spent some time working as a designer for Ethan Allen.

Since moving to the beautiful Comox Valley in 2012, she has worked as the interior decorator for the Home Depot in Courtenay and Campbell River for 3 years.  She really enjoys meeting new people and helping them to choose the perfect Hunter Douglas window treatments to meet their unique needs and compliment their decor.  Having worked with other companies’ products, she is thrilled to be working with Tracey and John and selling Hunter Douglas which, as she knows from experience, are the best out there!

Janet Arthur – Sales Associate

Janet Arthur has been an educator for many years, with a Masters degree in Education. As an Air Force military spouse, Janet has had the opportunity to experience living in a variety of places with her husband and three daughters. She is thrilled to now call the beautiful Comox Valley her home.

As a teacher, Janet has always found joy in being able to help educate and encourage those around her. Her passion for healthy living and education led her to becoming a trained health coach working with clients on positive lifestyle building and lifestyle living.

Janet is passionate about educating and helping others and is now excited to be a design consultant with the award winning team at Blinds and Bubbles Boutique.

Michael Smale – Sales Associate

In 2017 my wife Charlotte and I sold the Benjamin Moore store after 16 years in the paint business. Retired at last! Well, it was a short lived retirement when Tracey came knocking at my door and invited me to join the fine team at Blinds and Bubbles. How could I refuse! So I’ve enjoyed learning a different sector of home decor involving window treatments and all that goes along with it. Also, it’s been fun being part of the action at our new location in Home Hardware Downtown Courtenay. I see many new and familiar faces here and enjoy helping them find the perfect product to enhance their windows and ultimately their home.

Nero-McGinnnisNERO McGINNIS – Top Dog & Customer Service Expert

Nero may have spent most of his day fast asleep in a dog bed on top of the customer service desk but, when the doorbell jingled, he sprung into action as the official greeter at Blinds & Bubbles Boutique!  He came on board as the Customer Service Expert when he was about three years old.

We had to say farewell to our main little man in July of 2019 but he will always be remembered by those who knew him as a great listener, gentle soul and a truly great friend!  Love you buddy….

“From the very professional and relaxed in-home consultation (at no charge I might add) to the perfectly installed products, all which came at a very reasonable and affordable price. Who knew that shopping for window treatments would be such a pleasant and enjoyable experience? Thanks to Blinds & Bubbles!”
